Yorkshire Day celebrations at Headingley Hall, Southlands and Pennington Court

As proud Yorkshiremen (and women) last week we celebrated Yorkshire Day with a range of fun activities across our locations for residents, relatives and staff to enjoy.

At Headingley Hall residents enjoyed  a special reminiscence session in the morning and a Yorkshire Quiz in the afternoon, which was a perfect opportunity to test our knowledge on ‘Gods own County’.  The following day we were visited by Eric from the Yorkshire Dialect Society who spoke to us about the rich history of the Yorkshire dialect, shared some stories and jokes and answered the resident’s questions. Very much an education to Headingley Hall activities coordinator, Jack, who has relocated from the south of England.

Residents at Pennington Court held a Yorkshire themed baking session and made Yorkshire Fat Rascals for residents and staff to enjoy at afternoon tea whilst at Southlands residents enjoyed games, quizzes and a welly wanging competition in the garden!  After a very competitive contest Jane was the winner and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Across all the homes we enjoyed a Yorkshire themed menu which included Yorkshire puddings, Tetley steak & ale pie, Whitby scampi and Wilfra tart, all freshly made of course.  We’d like to thank all staff to making Yorkshire Day a fantastic celebration for our residents.
