We provide them with ongoing training and development, so they can develop new skills and create fresh ways of working to meet the changing needs of older people. We also provide them with the support network they need to be able to deliver excellence every day and provide care services with a personal touch.
Peter Hodkinson – Managing Director
Peter is the Managing Director of Westward Care with overall responsibility for business management and development of the organisation. Peter started his career in construction management, before becoming a Building Control Surveyor with Leeds City Council. He then used this experience and knowledge to create and develop care homes and was a founder member of Westward Care. Peter is also Chairman of Leeds Care Association and a Fellow at Skills for Care, the social care sector workforce development organisation.
Gail Lawton – Finance Manager
Gail became Finance Manager at Westward Care in August 2012. She is responsible for all financial matters and assists with the strategic development of Westward Care.
Gail has a wealth of commercial and financial experience gained over 25 years, including spells as Finance Director at Redwood Distribution, providers of bedding to the medical and care home markets, and Ferno (UK) Ltd, suppliers of medical equipment to the NHS. She studied accountancy at Bradford College and became a member of the AAT in 1998.
Vincent Hart – Operations Director
Vince joined the team at Westward Care as Operations Director in February 2018.
Vince has almost 30 years’ experience in health and social care and occupied a variety of senior positions. Vince’s career began with Goldsborough Healthcare Plc where he was involved in the management of care homes, domiciliary care and hospitals. Vince moved to Bupa in 1998 and most recently held the position of Regional Director Yorkshire for Bupa Care Services, covering the strategic, commercial and operational responsibility across 600 beds and 12 care homes.
Laura Clegg – General Manager at Southlands
RGN qualified Laura joined Westward Care in February 2017 as Southlands General Manager overseeing the luxury apartments with care and support.
Laura has over 20 years’ experience in the health & social care sector across many diverse environments including acute hospitals, the Blood Transfusion Service, Occupational Health and the Care Quality Commission. Laura has worked with both small & corporate health & social care providers resulting in her comprehensive skills, knowledge and experience.
Sharon Earnshaw – General Manager at Headingley Hall
Sharon joined the Care Team at Headingley Hall in June 2003 as Deputy Manager and was promoted to Care Manager, taking on full responsibility for the care delivered to the residents in June 2011. She became the home’s General Manager in October 2012.
Sharon has worked in care homes since leaving school at 17. She started as Care Assistant and rose through the ranks to Senior Care Assistant and Residential Co-ordinator before leaving her first care home to join Headingley Hall. Sharon believes that good communication skills and developing excellent relationships with residents and their families are key to the success of her role.
Ismail Uyumaz – Group Catering Manager
Ismail became Group Catering Manager at Westward Care in April 2015. He is responsible for all catering services within the Westward Care Group. Ismail’s initial objective is to promote excellent standards at Southlands, creating the bench mark for all of Westward Care homes and apartments.
Ismail is a self-motivated and versatile individual with over 10 years experience of management and leadership within the catering and hospitality sector. Ismail’s career began as a kitchen porter in a London hospital before shortly being promoted to trainee chef. After working successfully in all sections of the production kitchen, he moved to a private hospital as a sous chef.
After he moved to Leeds, Ismail worked as head chef, and assistant manager in a range of environments including blue-chip company staff restaurants, popular country pubs and world renowned football stadium. He has also held the position of catering services manager in a high quality nursing home that provided care for nearly 200 residents.
Angela Randle – General Manager at Pennington Court
Angela Randle is the General Manager at Pennington Court and has been in the post since May 2015.
Angela graduated in 1992 with an Honours degree in Nursing Studies and has worked in a variety of care settings within the NHS and private sector. Angela has over 15 years’ experience with Westward Care working in a variety of roles to develop care services for older people. Angela is very pleased to be back at Pennington Court and is looking forward to the rewards and challenges involved in continuing to develop the excellent service offered.
Heidi Gilbert – Outreach & Apartments Manager at Headingley Hall
Heidi has been with Westward Care since 2011 initially working at Headingley Hall Care Home as a Carer before moving to our Headingley Hall Outreach and Apartments service. During this time Heidi has worked her way through the ranks and was promoted to Deputy Manager in May 2014 before becoming the Apartments & Outreach Manager in August 2016.
Heidi has continuously shown a strong ability to lead the Outreach and Apartment team and develop positive relationships with both clients and staff. In addition Heidi has her Level 3 in Leadership & Management and is currently working towards a Level 5, she is also a Moving and Handling facilitator.
Heidi has said that she enjoys working as part of the Apartments and Outreach team and feels privileged that she can play a bigger part of the growing success of the independent living apartments at Headingley Hall.
