Well done to all the Southlands residents and relatives who have had a busy Summer of fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society and Cancer Research UK.

Residents plan, organise and provide refreshments for all events. They also run an ‘Old Wives Tale’ quiz and the winner of the quiz gets to choose the charity for the donation.

In June an Afternoon Tea raised £84 for Alzheimer’s Society and in July a barbecue for residents and relatives was co-ordinated featuring a raffle which raised £91. Though the weather did its best to dampen proceedings, we managed to shift the event indoors and it was a huge success.

In August a celebration for Yorkshire Day raised a further £91 for Alzheimer’s Society.

It’s brilliant to see events bringing friends and family together and we are looking forward to what our residents are planning next!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and to all our staff who have helped the events run smoothly.

"I stayed in Southlands after hip surgery for three weeks! I was welcomed warmly by management staff and residents. During my stay, I was treated with dignity and respect, and I shall keep in touch with the friends I made there. I had a comfortable apartment overlooking the garden. I shall certainly consider using this facility again if the need arises."
