With 8 May 2025 marking 80 years since VE Day, residents across Westward Care locations have been remembering both that historic day and the wider efforts and experiences of people who lived through World War II.

At The Cedars, which residents and staff decked out for the day in Union Jack flags, there was a morning of reminiscence on Thursday, with residents passing around photographs of the Women’s Land Army and the planes that were used in the War, and following up with a discussion about rationing and ration books.

Pennington Court was also awash with Union Jacks, which could be found on table cloths, balloons and even hats worn by the residents! In addition to a VE Day lunch, there was music from the Salvation Army, who treated Pennington residents to an afternoon of brass band tunes. A huge thank you to the Salvation Army for coming down and entertaining us for the day.
