As Westward Care staff begin to live our new core company values every day, our latest employees of the month all embodied trust, kindness, respect and teamwork in their work through October and November.

In October, Semhar Belay received multiple nominations from colleagues to be named Headingley @ Home’s standout employee that month. Called “a hard worker” and “a beautiful human”, Semhar was described as “kind, caring” and “always willing to help out others in the team when on a shift”.

Staff at The Cedars named two employees of the month in October: Social Activities Coordinator Joanne Shorten, who has previously received multiple nominations for employee of the month, and Sara Nicholson. Where Joanne was said to go “above and beyond for residents” and bring “so much positive energy” to the home, Sara was described as “very supportive, efficient in her work, always smiling and a pleasure to work with”.

In November, there was one clear employee of the month at The Cedars: Tina Morgan, who received multiple nominations and was said to embody the values of respect, kindness and teamwork. Described by one colleague as “very helpful and kind”, Tina was also singled out for her hard work, and for having “respect for both her colleagues and the residents”.

Chiwendu Okafor was named Hunslet Moor House’s employee of the month in November, with one colleague describing her as “entirely lovely” and “always ready to assist residents, wearing a smile and cheering them up”.

Headingley Hall Care Assistant Angela Schofield, who has in the past received multiple employee of the month nominations, was named employee of the month for the home in November. Said to “always put the residents at the front of everything”, Angela was also called “kind” and described as someone who “works well with others” and “cares for her colleagues”.

Last but not least, new Southlands Care & Client Services Manager Gareth Smith, who has been named employee of the month twice before for his work at Hunslet Moor House, was named employee of the month once again, this time for his work at Southlands in November. Said to embody all four of Westward Care’s core values, Gareth was called “most helpful”, and someone for whom “nothing is too much trouble”.

Congratulations to all of our employees of the month for October and November, and thank you, as ever, to all staff members both for casting votes and for continuing to be the best at what they do.

"Westward Care are truly supportive of everyone's professional development. If you want to improve and enhance your career they will provide and guide you towards the right training."
