At Westward Care, we understand how important it is to stay hydrated. Good hydration doesn’t just keep us feeling refreshed and alert; proper hydration helps the body to function as it should, keeping our internal processes ticking over and helping to keep us cool, something that’s especially important as the year turns towards the warmer months.

Though good hydration remains crucial all year round, this past week all Westward Care locations took part in Hydration Week, with a focus each day on finding interesting (and delicious) ways to stay properly hydrated.

The week kicked off on Monday with the first of the week’s smoothies: a recipe nicknamed ‘the Blue One’ which contained fruits of the forest, blueberries, pear, apple and apple juice. Across all locations, residents were treated to a new smoothie every day, with subsequent recipes including Saturday’s ‘the Tropical One’ and Sunday’s ‘Vitamin Booster’. Packed with vitamins, these colourful drinks were made from an ever-changing list of fruits and vegetables.

In addition to trying the Westward Care daily smoothies, residents also partook in some fun and games. At The Cedars, there was Twister Tuesday, where residents threw beanbags at a Twister mat and drank the corresponding colour of fruit drink that the beanbag landed on, while on Wednesday Cedars residents visited local Methley cricket club Spinners for a drink in the sun. Meanwhile, at Pennington Court, residents personalised their water bottles with stickers bearing their names and animated characters.

As Hydration Week comes to an end, we understand better not just how important being properly hydrated is, but how staying hydrated can also be fun, colourful and sociable.
"The staff at Westward Care clearly love their jobs and the residents. It is evident that they go above and beyond for the people in their care."
