If being social care co-ordinator at Headingley Hall wasn't already enough, Elkie Robson will soon be going the extra mile - and then some! - for the home.
On Sunday 31 August, Elkie will walk the 39.2km (24.5 miles) of the Yorkshire Three Peaks for charity, with any donations raised to be split 50/50 between residents at Headingley Hall and Leeds' Take Heart charity. Take Heart is a volunteer-run charity based at Leeds General Infirmary and St James's Hospital which supports Leeds' cardiac patients.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge pits walkers against the Pennine peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Typically, the challenge includes scaling and ascending the mountains in under 12 hours.
"Growing up with grandparents who could outrun me filled me with this deep-rooted focus to always push myself physically and lead a healthy life", said Elkie about her decision to walk the Three Peaks. "I am so happy to be fundraising to support even more fun social activities for all the residents at Headingley Hall. Their retirement deserves to be amazing, and I love making sure they are entertained every day.
"Take Heart, the charity arm of the Yorkshire Heart Centre, will also benefit from funds raised. Established by former patients of the Yorkshire Heart Centre, the charity raises funds to enhance the experience of patients, staff and their families at the centre. Any support is appreciated, and I'll let you know how I get on!"
Elkie's Three Peaks fundraiser is now open to donations at its
GoFundMe page, where a £450 target has been set. As she prepares for the big climb, Elkie will be providing updates of her fitness journey in the run-up to 31 August. Best of luck, Elkie!
