We’re wishing our resident at Pennington Court Alice very many happy returns as she turns 100 this June.
Alice was born in Pickering and during the Second World War she worked in Hunslet, making gears for the military.
In 1947, she married her beloved Howard, who had been a Prisoner of War. Alice and Howard had a long and happy marriage and had two children together – as well as five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Alice worked at Batty’s Brush for over 50 years, where she operated machines, making all kinds of bristle and wire brushes. When she retired, she went back to work in the staff canteen – and only gave up work at the age of 82!
A very glamorous lady, Alice used to have her hair set every week, loved to bake and knit and listen to her favourite singer, Cliff Richard – as well as heading off to Scarborough and Skegness with her life-long friends, Nellie and Charlie.
Alice is also a huge fan of the soaps – and never misses Countdown!
Everyone wishes you a very happy 100th birthday, Alice – and we hope you celebrate this big birthday in style!
