Last week we received a wonderful email from Samuel Gallamore. Samuel is a Year 9 student from Pedare Christian College in Adelaide, Australia and is currently completing a Community Project as part of his school programme.

He emailed Westward Care and noted:

“From the outset I have been keen to base my project around supporting people in the community, especially in residential care facilities. I have had to evolve my idea since the beginning of the year due to the current COVID-19 situation and am now planning to achieve my goal using online / electronic resources. Having spent the first half of my life growing up in Colton, Leeds I am keen to extend the support I provide to residential facilities in the UK where all of my extended family live.

I have produced fun puzzle sheets that you can give to your residents. I hope that me sending these puzzle sheets to your residents will let them know that people like me - even on the other side of the world - care for them and let them know that they are not alone in these hard times.

Please print out the puzzle sheets below and give them to your residents to complete. I would be grateful if you could email me back and let me know your feedback and if the residents enjoyed them. Thank you for reading my email; I hope to receive your reply.

Please feel free to forward my email and attached puzzle sheets to any other organisations that you think may enjoy them.

Yours sincerely,

Samuel Gallamore (age 13)"

The Puzzle Sheets Have gone down a storm with our residents.

Jack, the Social Co-ordinator at Headingley Hall has emailed Samuel back and let him know:

“Residents have really enjoyed hearing the story of where they (the Puzzle Pages) have come from. As you said in your email it’s lovely to feel supported and thought about even on the other side of world. At the moment this feeling of togetherness and community is so vital in keeping all our spirits up, so thank you again from all of us here for contributing and reaching out to us at this difficult time. We all greatly appreciate it.”

Here’s some quotes from the residents:

“Thank you. Let’s have another one!”
“Thank you very much – very clever.”
“You must be brighter than I am to come up with these! Thank you”
