Though all Westward Care residents enjoyed what was a wonderfully warm and sunny long Easter weekend, the spirit of spring was felt particularly keenly at Pennington Court this year, as residents there got front row seats to a brand new chick hatching programme.

On the Monday before Easter, an incubator containing a number of fertilised chicken eggs arrived at Pennington Court, and was placed in the lounge for all to see. By Tuesday, the eggs were already beginning to hatch, while by Wednesday the whole set of chicks had arrived chirping into the world.

It wasn’t long before Pennington Court’s fuzzy new residents were flapping and racing around the lounge, and residents and staff alike were more than happy to make the acquaintance of the latest additions to the home.

Unfortunately, the chicks won’t be staying long at Pennington Court – as part of the hatching programme, the chicks will now go to a farm where they will become free range chickens. It was, all the same, the perfect way to spend Easter 2026: watching new life grow, from the shell to the Pennington Court carpet!
"I can't praise Pennington Court highly enough. The loving caring staff, the quality of care, the food, in fact, everything about the care home."
