Methley Scarecrow Festival is set to enjoy its 20th anniversary this year – and to celebrate the occasion, residents at The Cedars have built their own scarecrow to show off on the big weekend.

Over one weekend every year for the past two decades, Methley has been taken over by scarecrows made by people and businesses from the village and surrounding areas. With activities and refreshments including homemade cakes on sale throughout, all proceeds from the weekend go to local causes and charities.

This year, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July, there are set to be over 90 scarecrows dotted throughout Methley. One of those will be the Cedars scarecrow, while some Cedars residents will be in attendance at the Festival to view some of the other creations for themselves.

Those who plan to attend the 2026 Scarecrow Festival can buy a trail map to find all of this year’s scarecrows. Maps can be bought at ‘Scarecrow HQ’, aka St Margaret’s Hall, and at the ‘Mini HQ’ in Fennel Court, and cost £2 each, with the money going towards the weekend’s total proceeds for good causes in Methley.

All members of staff at The Cedars have done this with empathy and understanding, including supporting me when mum was very poorly and had to go into hospital and I was frightened. They have gone out of their way at times to enable me to visit mum regularly and made me and my family feel welcome at all times. I cannot praise or thank them enough. I just think you're all amazing."
