Southlands residents enjoy regular demonstrations with artist Miriam Laville

A regular visitor to Southlands is artist Miriam Laville who holds a demonstration for residents every two weeks.  These sessions are always enjoyed by residents and topics vary from the creation of a painting from the initial blank canvas to completed artwork to art history sessions covering topics such as the renaissance.

Following completion of her degree in Graphic Arts & Design at Leeds Metropolitan University, Miriam started her career as a Gallery Assistant at the Terrance Gallery, Harewood House and now offers art, painting and craft workshops throughout Yorkshire and at her studio in Roundhay.

We are delighted that Miriam is able to join us for regular sessions and she has definitely been a creative muse for residents who enjoy their own arts and craft sessions with Karen, Activities Coordinator.   As Southlands is set in such beautiful award winning gardens, there is certainly no shortage of inspiration with residents even making the most of the autumn sunshine and enjoying sketching on the terrace!

"Moving here has been my salvation. Knowing that help and support is always on hand has removed all of the anxiety I used to feel and it has meant that I can now get on with my life with very little support at all. Everyone involved in getting me here has been absolutely fantastic, patient, caring and kind."
