Celebrating Chinese New Year At Westward Care

2019 marks the year of the Pig and this year all our Westward Care locations got involved in celebrating the Chinese New Year.

At Headingley Hall a special history club session was held and residents discussed the event and symbolism of the colours and decorations of Chinese New Year whilst at Pennington Court residents enjoyed designing Chines style fans. In arts and crafts club at Southlands residents made Chinese lanterns which were later used to decorate the dining room.

Residents also enjoyed a traditional Chinese meal which included spring rolls, prawn crackers and beef in black bean sauce and of course Fortune Cookies!

The traditional Chinese calendar is organised around the movements of the moon, with the new year usually falling between January 21 and February 20.  We have now entered the year of the pig which is the twelfth sign of the zodiac and in Chinese culture pigs are a symbol of wealth.
"The staff at Westward Care clearly love their jobs and the residents. It is evident that they go above and beyond for the people in their care."
